I was a big DMX fan. I was shocked when he passed on April 9, 2012. Saturday, I have to bang out all of his songs when I was coding. They even started singing,

“Stop, drop, shut 'em down, open up the laptop

Oh, no, that's how full-stack developers roll

Stop, drop, shut 'em down, open up the laptop

Oh, no, that's how full-stack developers roll’ in my best DMX voice. I’ve always listened while I code. I’m happiest having my headphone on and banging code. Most of the time I listen to smooth jazz or lofi hip-hop. Listening to music can help you get into the “zone.” I also find that the right music can help you concentrate and even block out background sounds. The right playlist will most have the mindset to write effective code. I remember on time; I had a crucial deadline that was upcoming. I was coming up to zero hours; I was fading fast. Then it hit I have Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” on repeat. That was the motivation that I need accomplish that goal. If you are like me, you love to code with music. There is a couple of downside of coding with music. Sometimes it can be distracting. I know many people only listen to music that only has instrumental music. If you’re in an office setting, make sure that you’re using headphones, so that won’t disrupt your co-workers. So what about you? Do you like to listen to music when you code? What do you listen to?

Until the next time #KeepBringingThatBigFullStackEnergy
